The agreements will increase cooperation between the U.S. and Japan on many global issues.
President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida gave a joint news conference on Wednesday, announcing upcoming plans to strengthen military partnerships between the U.S. and Japan. The two leaders revealed roughly 70 agreements forged between the two nations, that will address a number of global issues through the cooperation of these historic countries.
“This is the most significant upgrade in our alliance since it was first established,” President Biden said. The press conference followed about two hours of talks that focused on the restive Indo-Pacific region and China’s actions.
Prime Minister Kishida agreed, adding that China’s actions in the Indo-Pacific reflect Russia’s current showcase of aggression in Europe. “Unilateral attempts to change status quo by force or coercion is absolutely unacceptable, wherever it may be,” the prime minister said. “Ukraine today may be East Asia tomorrow.”
